queeructation

Queeructation is a multi-national group of LGBTQIA+ and queer allies, based in Arnhem and mostly consisting of communities around ArtEZ. The group came together in 2019 under the main goal of creating a platform for queer artists to inspire, experiment and curate their own autonomous ideas. By time it also formed a community for none-artist queer youth but remained engined by queer artistic and activistic expressions; Programming urban interventions, events, queer readings/writing/screening groups, workshops and ofcourse privet meetings and talks under subjects of navigation in terms of community and individual growth.

After many interventions in squares, clubs, bars and alberthijns, the 'BITE ME' events marked a slight shift in the group’s practice that reflected on the quest for safe spaces and unbridled exploration. Essentially, the question remained how can Queeructation offer external exploration without being exploited. The space they sought in Motel Spatie as a safe playground reformed their approach on queer visibility into queer investigation.

The memebers of the group found necessity in dressup gatherings where they experimented with makeup, outfits and slef representation and expression, these self interventions would mostly end up as social interventions where the group seize the streets and the public space to celebrate, demanding queer safety in the most unsafe spaces.

second edition of BITE ME was in collaboration with Spoon kitchen, a Queer dinner with live performances by Yinzk, N!X, Shivers and many more. the SPOON team served 'A Fruitful fantasy' the queerly oriented recipe designed along side a research publication on gendered food and queering the cookbook by Kimiya Jokar and Platy Helminth, published during BITE ME as a part of the queer dining experience.

Fwd: My pro-LGBTQ+ ex Zac is VJ-hunk Show by Jizz Taco 30th and 31st of October 2020 at Queeructation

For the 'BITE ME with a SPOON' promo video, QUEERUCTATION organized a Public intervention in the public gym area of park Presikhaaf, Arnhem.

Jizz Taco is an alter ego of graphic designer and typographer Michiel Terpelle (@terpellepret), born from a pangram out of a desire to freely express an identity that transcends the limitations imposed by his background from which he derived his (carefully constructed) ‘everyday’ identity.

The show was curated and hosted by Queeructation as the group announces Jizz Taco its newest member as a part of her graduation project of werkplaatstypografie. Exploring the body of transformation in visual, textual and queer language, Taco brought textiles, VJ installation and original typefaces to a showcase of queer possibilities within the graphic and typographic realm.
